What is a School?

A School in Hischool is a structured collaborative environment where members communicate, organize groups, and participate in shared activities.

Schools are the core workspace of the platform.

As a member, you can:

  • Join or discover schools
  • Navigate school sections
  • Participate in groups
  • View members and roles
  • Customize your school identity
  • Leave or report a school if necessary

This guide explains how to interact with schools from a member perspective.

You can join a school in three ways:

If a school is discoverable:

  • Go to Discover
  • Browse public schools
  • Select a school
  • Click Join

You will join immediately.

If a school is private:

  • Open the invite link shared with you
  • Review school details
  • Click Join School

Invite links are unique and may expire.

Some schools provide an Invite Code (8-character unique code).

To join using a code:

  • Click the + button (top right)
    or
  • Use + Create or Join from the navigation bar
  • Select Join a School
  • Enter the invite code

If valid, you will join the school.

Join a School

When you open a school, you will see:

The sidebar includes:

  • School banner image
  • School name
  • Verified badge (if applicable)
  • Quick action menu
  • Navigation tabs:
    • About
    • Members
    • Groups
  • Group list (organized by category if configured)

Selecting any item updates the main content window.

The About page displays:

  • School image
  • Markdown-formatted description
  • Total member count
  • Owner information

You can:

  • Click the member count to open the Members tab
  • Click the owner name to view their profile

If categories are enabled, they appear below the header and filter related groups.

Here you can:

  • View all school members
  • Search by name
  • Filter by role
  • Open member profiles

Roles are visible but can only be modified by administrators.

This section displays:

  • All groups within the school
  • Categories (if configured)
  • Search and filtering options

You can:

  • Join accessible groups
  • Participate in conversations
  • View group details

Some groups may be restricted based on your role.

Hischool supports context-based identity.

Inside a school, you may:

  • Use a different display name
  • Use a school-specific profile image
  • Present yourself differently from your global profile

Your global profile remains unchanged outside that school.

Change Your Identity in a School

Your permissions inside a school depend on your assigned role.

As a member, you may not be able to:

  • Modify school settings
  • Assign roles
  • Remove members
  • Manage policies

Roles are managed by school administrators.

Role & Permission Issues

If you no longer want to participate:

  • Open the school settings (if available)
  • Select Leave School

Leaving removes your access to all groups and conversations within that school.

Rejoining may require a new invitation or code.

Leave a School

If you encounter:

  • Policy violations
  • Inappropriate content
  • Abuse or harassment
  • Suspicious activity

You can report the school for review.

Report a School

Reports are reviewed according to platform guidelines.

Your:

  • Role
  • Identity
  • Group access
  • Permissions

May differ across schools.

Always confirm which school context you are in before taking action.
