Profile

A user profile in Hischool displays personal information, school-specific identity, shared connections, and achievements.

Profiles are context-aware.
What you see may depend on:

  • Whether you are viewing your own profile
  • Whether you share a school
  • Your relationship with the user
  • School-level permissions

A profile consists of three main sections:

  1. Header (Identity & Actions)
  2. Badges and Visual Highlights
  3. Contextual Tabs

The top section includes:

  • Cover image
  • Profile image (avatar)
  • Display name
  • @username
  • Direct Message (DM) button
  • More options menu (⋯)

The display name and username appear layered over the cover image.

If you are viewing another user’s profile, you can:

  • Start a direct message
  • Open additional actions from the options menu

If you are viewing your own profile, management options may appear instead.

User badges appear on the cover area and visually represent:

  • Achievements
  • Verification status
  • Role highlights
  • Special recognitions

See:
Badges

Below the header, profile information is organized into tabs.

Available tabs may vary depending on context.

  • [School] (if viewing from inside a school)
  • Profile
  • Friends
  • Groups
  • Schools

See:
Profile Tabs Explained

If you open a profile from inside a school:

A [School] tab appears.

This tab displays:

  • School banner and name
  • Verification badge (if applicable)
  • The user’s school-specific profile image and display name
  • Role within the school
  • Member since date (within that school)
  • “School Owner” label and icon (if applicable)

This allows users to maintain different identities per school.

The Profile tab displays:

  • Bio (Markdown supported)
  • Member since (Hischool registration date)

The bio may include formatted text.

When viewing another user’s profile:

The Friends tab shows:

  • Mutual friends between you and the user

This tab is hidden when viewing your own profile.

When viewing another user’s profile:

The Groups tab shows:

  • Shared direct messages
  • Shared group conversations

This helps you understand your communication overlap.

Hidden when viewing your own profile.

When viewing another user’s profile:

The Schools tab shows:

  • Shared schools between you and the user

This tab helps identify shared educational environments.

Hidden when viewing your own profile.

When you view your own profile:

  • Mutual tabs (Friends, Groups, Schools) are hidden.
  • School tab appears only when accessed from a school context.
  • Management controls may be visible.

There are no “mutual” relationships with yourself.

Profile visibility may depend on:
