Role & Permission Issues
If you see messages such as:
- “You do not have permission”
- “Action not allowed”
- “Access denied”
- “Restricted by policy”
the issue is usually related to your assigned role, school policies, or conversation settings.
Hischool uses role-based access control (RBAC) to manage actions, permissions, and visibility across schools and groups.
How Roles Work
Section titled “How Roles Work”Permissions in Hischool depend on several factors:
- Your role within a school
- Your role within a group or conversation
- School-level configuration
- Conversation settings
- Organization or administrator policies
Common school roles include:
- Owner
- Administrator
- Moderator
- Member
Each role has different permissions and responsibilities.

Quick Checklist
Section titled “Quick Checklist”Before assuming a system error, check the following:
- Are you inside the correct school?
- Has your role changed recently?
- Is the conversation or group locked?
- Are you still a member of the group or school?
- Is the action restricted to administrators or moderators?
Many permission issues are caused by context mismatch or role changes.
Common Permission Issues
Section titled “Common Permission Issues”Cannot Add Members
Section titled “Cannot Add Members”Possible causes include:
- Only administrators or moderators can invite members
- Invitations are restricted by school policy
- The group or school is locked
- Your role was downgraded to Member
Contact a school administrator if you need invite permissions.
Cannot Edit School Settings
Section titled “Cannot Edit School Settings”Only Owners or Administrators can modify school-level settings, including:
- School information
- Role assignments
- Permission rules
- Administrative policies
If you need changes made, contact the school owner or administrator.
Cannot Delete Content
Section titled “Cannot Delete Content”Content deletion may be restricted to:
- The content creator
- Moderators
- Administrators
Some content may also be protected by moderation policies.
Cannot Send Messages
Section titled “Cannot Send Messages”Messaging restrictions may occur if:
- The conversation is in announcement mode
- The conversation is locked
- Your role restricts messaging
- You were removed from the group

Missing Features
Section titled “Missing Features”If certain features do not appear in the interface:
Possible causes include:
- The feature is not enabled for your role
- The school policy restricts access
- You are not in the correct school context
- Your account permissions are limited
Switch schools or refresh the page to confirm.
Role Changes
Section titled “Role Changes”If your permissions changed unexpectedly:
- Your role may have been updated or reassigned
- School ownership may have been transferred
- School policies may have been modified
- You may have been removed from a group
Contact your school administrator to confirm your role.
Context Awareness
Section titled “Context Awareness”Hischool uses a context-based interface.
Permissions may vary depending on:
- The school you are currently viewing
- The group or conversation you are in
- Whether you are viewing a global or school-specific page
Always verify that you are performing the action in the correct context.
When to Contact a School Administrator
Section titled “When to Contact a School Administrator”Contact your administrator if:
- You believe your role was changed by mistake
- You need additional permissions
- You cannot access features required for your role
- You are blocked from performing necessary actions
Administrators manage role assignments and school-level permissions.
When to Contact Platform Support
Section titled “When to Contact Platform Support”Contact platform support if:
- Permission behavior appears inconsistent
- Multiple users are unexpectedly restricted
- The system shows incorrect role behavior
- Permission errors appear repeatedly
