Role & Permission Issues

If you see messages such as:

  • “You do not have permission”
  • “Action not allowed”
  • “Access denied”
  • “Restricted by policy”

the issue is usually related to your assigned role, school policies, or conversation settings.

Hischool uses role-based access control (RBAC) to manage actions, permissions, and visibility across schools and groups.

Permissions in Hischool depend on several factors:

  • Your role within a school
  • Your role within a group or conversation
  • School-level configuration
  • Conversation settings
  • Organization or administrator policies

Common school roles include:

  • Owner
  • Administrator
  • Moderator
  • Member

Each role has different permissions and responsibilities.

See:
School Management

Before assuming a system error, check the following:

  • Are you inside the correct school?
  • Has your role changed recently?
  • Is the conversation or group locked?
  • Are you still a member of the group or school?
  • Is the action restricted to administrators or moderators?

Many permission issues are caused by context mismatch or role changes.

Possible causes include:

  • Only administrators or moderators can invite members
  • Invitations are restricted by school policy
  • The group or school is locked
  • Your role was downgraded to Member

Contact a school administrator if you need invite permissions.

Only Owners or Administrators can modify school-level settings, including:

  • School information
  • Role assignments
  • Permission rules
  • Administrative policies

If you need changes made, contact the school owner or administrator.

Content deletion may be restricted to:

  • The content creator
  • Moderators
  • Administrators

Some content may also be protected by moderation policies.

Messaging restrictions may occur if:

  • The conversation is in announcement mode
  • The conversation is locked
  • Your role restricts messaging
  • You were removed from the group

See:
Message Not Sending

If certain features do not appear in the interface:

Possible causes include:

  • The feature is not enabled for your role
  • The school policy restricts access
  • You are not in the correct school context
  • Your account permissions are limited

Switch schools or refresh the page to confirm.

If your permissions changed unexpectedly:

  • Your role may have been updated or reassigned
  • School ownership may have been transferred
  • School policies may have been modified
  • You may have been removed from a group

Contact your school administrator to confirm your role.

Hischool uses a context-based interface.

Permissions may vary depending on:

  • The school you are currently viewing
  • The group or conversation you are in
  • Whether you are viewing a global or school-specific page

Always verify that you are performing the action in the correct context.

Contact your administrator if:

  • You believe your role was changed by mistake
  • You need additional permissions
  • You cannot access features required for your role
  • You are blocked from performing necessary actions

Administrators manage role assignments and school-level permissions.

Contact platform support if:

  • Permission behavior appears inconsistent
  • Multiple users are unexpectedly restricted
  • The system shows incorrect role behavior
  • Permission errors appear repeatedly

See:
Contact Support

  • Your account email
  • School name
  • The action you attempted
  • Screenshot of the error
