Structure Categories
Categories help you organize groups inside your school.
Without categories:
- Groups appear in a flat list.
- The sidebar may become cluttered.
- Navigation becomes difficult in large schools.
Using categories improves:
- Clarity
- Structure
- Discoverability
- Productivity
Why Categories Matter
Section titled “Why Categories Matter”As your school grows:
- The number of groups increases.
- Sidebar navigation becomes crowded.
- Members struggle to locate relevant groups.
Organizing groups into categories helps create a clear and structured environment.
Managing Categories
Section titled “Managing Categories”To manage categories:
- Open your school.
- Go to School Settings.
- Navigate to Categories.
From this section, you can:
- Create categories
- Rename categories
- Reorder categories
- Delete categories
- Reorder groups inside categories
Creating a Category
Section titled “Creating a Category”To create a category:
- Open the Categories section.
- Select Add Category.
- Enter a category name.
- Save.
The category will then be available when assigning groups.
Renaming a Category
Section titled “Renaming a Category”You can rename a category directly in the Categories management window.
Renaming a category:
- Updates the sidebar immediately
- Does not affect group members
- Does not affect permissions
Reordering Categories
Section titled “Reordering Categories”Categories can be reordered by:
- Dragging them up or down
- Adjusting their position in the list
The sidebar updates automatically after reordering.
Clear ordering improves usability and navigation.
Moving Groups Between Categories
Section titled “Moving Groups Between Categories”You can change a group’s category in multiple ways.
Option 1: Change Category from the Group
Section titled “Option 1: Change Category from the Group”- Open the group.
- Select Change Category.
- Choose a new category.
- Save.
Option 2: From Group Settings
Section titled “Option 2: From Group Settings”- Open Group Settings.
- Modify the Category field.
- Save changes.
Changes take effect immediately.
Selecting a Category When Creating a Group
Section titled “Selecting a Category When Creating a Group”When creating a new group:
- You can select a category during setup.
- The group will appear under that category in the sidebar.

Reordering Groups Within a Category
Section titled “Reordering Groups Within a Category”Inside the Categories management section:
- You can drag and reorder groups.
- Groups will appear in the same order in the sidebar.
- This helps improve navigation and organization.
Deleting a Category
Section titled “Deleting a Category”When deleting a category:
- The category is removed.
- Groups inside the category are not deleted.
- Those groups become uncategorized.
- They appear in the sidebar without a category.
Deleting a category does not remove group content.
However, leaving too many uncategorized groups may reduce clarity.
Governance Best Practices
Section titled “Governance Best Practices”- Avoid leaving many groups uncategorized.
- Group related subjects or teams together.
- Use consistent naming conventions.
- Avoid creating too many categories.
- Review your structure periodically.
A well-designed category structure keeps the school organized as it grows.
