Profile Tabs

User profiles in Hischool are organized into tabs.

Tabs are dynamic and context-aware.

What you see depends on:

  • Whether you are viewing your own profile
  • Whether you share a school
  • Whether you are inside a school
  • Your relationship with the user

A profile may include the following tabs:

  • [School] (context-specific)
  • Profile
  • Friends
  • Groups
  • Schools

Not all tabs are always visible.

The [School] tab appears only when:

  • You open a user’s profile from inside a specific school.

This tab displays school-specific identity information.

It may include:

  • School banner
  • School name
  • Verification badge
  • School-specific display name
  • School-specific profile image
  • Role in the school
  • Membership start date
  • “School Owner” label and icon (if applicable)

This allows users to maintain different identities across schools.

If you open the profile outside a school context, this tab does not appear.

The Profile tab shows global user information:

  • Bio (Markdown supported)
  • Member since (Hischool registration date)

This information is platform-wide, not school-specific.

The Friends tab shows:

  • Mutual friends between you and the viewed user.

This tab appears only when:

  • You are viewing another user’s profile.
  • Mutual friends exist (depending on configuration).

When viewing your own profile, this tab is hidden.

You cannot have mutual friends with yourself.

The Groups tab displays:

  • Shared direct messages
  • Shared group conversations

This helps you understand communication overlap.

The tab appears only when viewing another user’s profile.

Hidden when viewing your own profile.

The Schools tab shows:

  • Schools both you and the viewed user are members of.

This tab:

  • Helps identify shared educational environments.
  • Appears only when mutual schools exist.
  • Is hidden when viewing your own profile.

Tab visibility depends on:

  • Identity (self vs other)
  • Shared membership
  • School context
  • Privacy settings
  • Role permissions

Example logic:

Viewing your own profile:

  • Show: Profile
  • Show: [School] (if inside a school)
  • Hide: Friends, Groups, Schools

Viewing another user:

  • Show: Profile
  • Show: [School] (if inside a school)
  • Show: Mutual tabs (if applicable)

Context-aware tabs:

  • Reduce clutter
  • Improve clarity
  • Protect privacy
  • Avoid redundant information
  • Maintain logical relationship modeling

Profiles are designed to reflect real relationships and school boundaries.

Certain tabs may be hidden if:

  • Privacy settings restrict visibility.
  • You do not share a school.
  • Your role limits access.
  • The user has restricted profile visibility.
