Profile Tabs
User profiles in Hischool are organized into tabs.
Tabs are dynamic and context-aware.
What you see depends on:
- Whether you are viewing your own profile
- Whether you share a school
- Whether you are inside a school
- Your relationship with the user
Overview of Profile Tabs
Section titled “Overview of Profile Tabs”A profile may include the following tabs:
- [School] (context-specific)
- Profile
- Friends
- Groups
- Schools
Not all tabs are always visible.
The [School] Tab (Context-Based)
Section titled “The [School] Tab (Context-Based)”The [School] tab appears only when:
- You open a user’s profile from inside a specific school.
This tab displays school-specific identity information.
It may include:
- School banner
- School name
- Verification badge
- School-specific display name
- School-specific profile image
- Role in the school
- Membership start date
- “School Owner” label and icon (if applicable)
This allows users to maintain different identities across schools.
If you open the profile outside a school context, this tab does not appear.
Profile Tab
Section titled “Profile Tab”The Profile tab shows global user information:
- Bio (Markdown supported)
- Member since (Hischool registration date)
This information is platform-wide, not school-specific.
Friends Tab (Mutual Connections)
Section titled “Friends Tab (Mutual Connections)”The Friends tab shows:
- Mutual friends between you and the viewed user.
This tab appears only when:
- You are viewing another user’s profile.
- Mutual friends exist (depending on configuration).
When viewing your own profile, this tab is hidden.
You cannot have mutual friends with yourself.
Groups Tab (Shared Conversations)
Section titled “Groups Tab (Shared Conversations)”The Groups tab displays:
- Shared direct messages
- Shared group conversations
This helps you understand communication overlap.
The tab appears only when viewing another user’s profile.
Hidden when viewing your own profile.
Schools Tab (Shared Schools)
Section titled “Schools Tab (Shared Schools)”The Schools tab shows:
- Schools both you and the viewed user are members of.
This tab:
- Helps identify shared educational environments.
- Appears only when mutual schools exist.
- Is hidden when viewing your own profile.
Dynamic Tab Visibility Rules
Section titled “Dynamic Tab Visibility Rules”Tab visibility depends on:
- Identity (self vs other)
- Shared membership
- School context
- Privacy settings
- Role permissions
Example logic:
Viewing your own profile:
- Show: Profile
- Show: [School] (if inside a school)
- Hide: Friends, Groups, Schools
Viewing another user:
- Show: Profile
- Show: [School] (if inside a school)
- Show: Mutual tabs (if applicable)
Why Tabs Are Context-Aware
Section titled “Why Tabs Are Context-Aware”Context-aware tabs:
- Reduce clutter
- Improve clarity
- Protect privacy
- Avoid redundant information
- Maintain logical relationship modeling
Profiles are designed to reflect real relationships and school boundaries.
Privacy and Restrictions
Section titled “Privacy and Restrictions”Certain tabs may be hidden if:
- Privacy settings restrict visibility.
- You do not share a school.
- Your role limits access.
- The user has restricted profile visibility.
