Status and Presence
Hischool displays user status indicators to help others understand your availability and communication preferences.
Unlike automatic presence-only systems, Hischool allows users to manually control their status.
Available Status Types
Section titled “Available Status Types”Hischool supports the following status types:
- Online
- Idle
- Focus
- Do Not Disturb (Busy)
- Invisible
- Custom status text
There is no automatic expiration timer for status.
Your selected status remains active until you manually change it.
Online
Section titled “Online”Icon: Green circle
Online status indicates that:
- You are actively using the platform.
- Other users can see that you are available.
- You appear as active in conversations and profile views.
This is the default visible state when you are active.
Icon: Orange crescent moon
Idle status indicates that:
- You are currently inactive.
- You may not be actively interacting.
- Others should not expect an immediate response.
Idle helps signal temporary inactivity.
Icon: Blue target
Focus status indicates that:
- You are concentrating on work or study.
- You prefer minimal interruptions.
- Others should contact you only if necessary.
This status communicates intentional focus.
Do Not Disturb (Busy)
Section titled “Do Not Disturb (Busy)”Icon: Red stop symbol
Do Not Disturb (DND) indicates that:
- You are busy.
- Others should avoid interrupting you.
- You prefer not to receive unnecessary notifications.
Messages can still be delivered, but your status clearly signals that you are unavailable.
Invisible
Section titled “Invisible”Icon: Gray circle
Invisible status means:
- You may be active on the platform.
- Other users will see you as offline.
- Your activity is hidden from presence indicators.
Important:
There is no time limit on Invisible mode.
You will remain Invisible until you manually switch back to another status (such as Online).
Custom Status
Section titled “Custom Status”You may also set a custom status text, such as:
- “In class”
- “Working on project”
- “Back later”
Custom status provides additional context beyond your presence indicator.
Where Status Appears
Section titled “Where Status Appears”Status indicators may appear in:
- Profile header
- Messages list
- Conversation participants panel
- Friends list
- Search results
Visibility depends on context and privacy settings.
How to Change Your Status
Section titled “How to Change Your Status”You can change your status from:
- Your Profile page
- The User Menu in the navigation bar (the menu with your profile image)
Status updates take effect immediately.

- Privacy settings
- School membership
- Role permissions
- Organization policies

Best Practices
