Status and Presence

Hischool displays user status indicators to help others understand your availability and communication preferences.

Unlike automatic presence-only systems, Hischool allows users to manually control their status.

Hischool supports the following status types:

  • Online
  • Idle
  • Focus
  • Do Not Disturb (Busy)
  • Invisible
  • Custom status text

There is no automatic expiration timer for status.
Your selected status remains active until you manually change it.

Online status indicates that:

  • You are actively using the platform.
  • Other users can see that you are available.
  • You appear as active in conversations and profile views.

This is the default visible state when you are active.

Idle status indicates that:

  • You are currently inactive.
  • You may not be actively interacting.
  • Others should not expect an immediate response.

Idle helps signal temporary inactivity.

Icon: Blue target

Focus status indicates that:

  • You are concentrating on work or study.
  • You prefer minimal interruptions.
  • Others should contact you only if necessary.

This status communicates intentional focus.

Icon: Red stop symbol

Do Not Disturb (DND) indicates that:

  • You are busy.
  • Others should avoid interrupting you.
  • You prefer not to receive unnecessary notifications.

Messages can still be delivered, but your status clearly signals that you are unavailable.

Icon: Gray circle

Invisible status means:

  • You may be active on the platform.
  • Other users will see you as offline.
  • Your activity is hidden from presence indicators.

Important:

There is no time limit on Invisible mode.
You will remain Invisible until you manually switch back to another status (such as Online).

You may also set a custom status text, such as:

  • “In class”
  • “Working on project”
  • “Back later”

Custom status provides additional context beyond your presence indicator.

Status indicators may appear in:

  • Profile header
  • Messages list
  • Conversation participants panel
  • Friends list
  • Search results

Visibility depends on context and privacy settings.

You can change your status from:

  • Your Profile page
  • The User Menu in the navigation bar (the menu with your profile image)

Status updates take effect immediately.

Status visibility may depend on:

  • Privacy settings
  • School membership
  • Role permissions
  • Organization policies

See:

  • Use Focus or Do Not Disturb during deep work.
  • Use Invisible when you prefer not to appear online.
