Block or Unblock a User
Blocking allows you to prevent another user from interacting with you.
You may block a user if:
- You receive unwanted messages
- You experience harassment
- You no longer want any interaction
- You want to protect your privacy
Blocking provides stronger restrictions than removing a friend.
What Happens When You Block Someone?
Section titled “What Happens When You Block Someone?”When you block a user:
- They cannot send you friend requests.
- They cannot send you direct messages.
- Existing friend connections are removed.
- Profile visibility between you may be restricted (depending on system rules).
- You may not see each other in search results (depending on configuration).
Blocking takes effect immediately.
How to Block a User
Section titled “How to Block a User”You can block a user from:
- The Friends list
- A user’s profile page
- A pending friend request
- A conversation (if supported)
Steps:
- Open the user’s profile or options menu.
- Select Block User.
- Confirm the action.
The user is not notified when they are blocked.
Unblocking a User
Section titled “Unblocking a User”If you decide to restore interaction:
- Go to Friends.
- Open the Blocked Users section.
- Select the user.
- Click Unblock.
After unblocking:
- The user may be able to find and contact you again (depending on privacy settings).
- You are not automatically reconnected as friends.
- A new friend request must be sent to reconnect.
Block vs Remove
Section titled “Block vs Remove”Remove Friend
- Ends the connection.
- Does not prevent future contact.
Block User
- Prevents messaging.
- Prevents friend requests.
- May hide profiles from each other.
Blocking is recommended if you want to fully restrict interaction.

Reporting Inappropriate Behavior

- Consider reporting them in addition to blocking.
- Reporting helps maintain a safe and respectful environment.

School and Organization Context
Section titled “School and Organization Context”Blocking:
- Does not automatically remove shared school membership.
- Does not automatically remove shared group membership.
- May not hide all shared content inside a school.
In school environments:
- Certain administrative or moderation actions may override personal blocking.
- If you feel unsafe, contact your school administrator.
Common Issues

Section titled “I can still see the user in a shared group”Blocking prevents direct interaction but does not automatically remove shared school or group membership.
The user can still message me
Section titled “The user can still message me”- Make sure the block was successfully applied.
- Refresh the page.
- Check your Blocked Users list.
I cannot unblock someone
Section titled “I cannot unblock someone”- The account may no longer exist.
- Your role or system policy may restrict this action.
Best Practices
Section titled “Best Practices”- Use blocking when you need strong interaction limits.
- Do not engage with abusive users.
- Report serious violations.
- Review your blocked list periodically.
