Navigate a School

When you open a school in Hischool, you enter a school-specific workspace.

Everything you see and can do inside a school depends on:

  • Your assigned role in that school
  • The school’s configuration
  • The selected sidebar item

This guide explains how to navigate and understand the structure of a school.

A school workspace is divided into two main areas:

  • Sidebar (left panel)
  • Main content window (right panel)

Selecting items in the sidebar updates the main content area.

The school sidebar typically includes:

At the top, you may see:

  • School banner image
  • School name
  • Verified badge (if applicable)
  • Contextual options menu (⋯)

The contextual menu may include actions such as:

  • School settings (if permitted)
  • Leave school
  • Other school-specific actions

Available options depend on your role.

Below the header, you will see the core sections:

  • About
  • Members
  • Groups

Selecting one of these updates the main content window.

Below the main tabs, you may see:

  • A list of groups inside the school
  • Groups organized by category (if enabled)
  • Expandable or collapsible category sections

Clicking a group opens its conversation or content in the main window.

The About page displays:

  • School banner or image
  • Markdown-formatted description
  • Total member count
  • Owner information

You can:

  • Click the member count to open the Members tab.
  • Click the owner’s name to view their profile.

If categories are configured, they may appear as tabs and filter visible groups.

In the Members tab, you can:

  • View all school members
  • Search by name
  • Filter by role
  • Open member profiles

Roles are visible to members, but only administrators can modify them.

The Groups tab displays:

  • All groups within the school
  • Search functionality
  • Filtering options (if supported)
  • Card or list view (if supported)

You can:

  • Join available groups (if permitted)
  • Enter conversations
  • View group descriptions

Some groups may be restricted depending on your assigned role.

If the school uses categories:

  • Groups are organized under category headings.
  • Categories may appear as tabs or collapsible sections.
  • Selecting a category filters visible groups.

Categories help organize large schools with many groups.

Hischool is context-based.

This means:

  • Your identity may differ inside this school.
  • Your permissions depend on your role in this school.
  • Available actions may differ across schools.

Always confirm you are inside the intended school before performing actions such as posting, managing groups, or editing settings.

To switch schools:

  1. Return to the Home page.
  2. Select another school from your school list.

Each school operates as an independent workspace.

  • Use the group search box to quickly locate specific groups.
  • Check categories if you cannot find a group.
  • Confirm your role if you cannot access certain sections.
  • Refresh the page if content does not update properly.
