Join a Group
To participate in discussions inside a school, you must have access to the group.
Group access depends on the group type and your role.
Hischool does not use a “Join” button for groups.
Group Types
Section titled “Group Types”Hischool supports two types of groups:
1. Public Groups
Section titled “1. Public Groups”Public groups:
- Are visible to all school members
- Do not require joining
- Automatically include all school members
- Open immediately when clicked
If a group is Public, you are already a member by default.
Public groups are typically used for:
- Announcements
- School-wide discussions
- Shared resources
There is no separate membership management for Public groups.
2. Private Groups
Section titled “2. Private Groups”Private groups are restricted.
They are visible and accessible only to:
- The group creator
- Members explicitly added to the group
- School members with roles that grant access
Private groups do not have a “Join” button.
Instead, members join through controlled invitation methods.
How to Join a Private Group
Section titled “How to Join a Private Group”There are three ways to join a Private group:
1. Invite Link
Section titled “1. Invite Link”Authorized group members can generate an Invite Link.
The invite link:
- Is created from the Private group settings
- Is unique to that group
- Can be shared with selected people
To join using an invite link:
- Click the shared invite link.
- Sign in to your Hischool account (if required).
- Review the group information in the popup window.
- Confirm to join.
If valid, you will immediately become a member of the group.
2. Invite Code
Section titled “2. Invite Code”A Private group can also generate an Invite Code.
The invite code:
- Is created from the Private group settings
- Is unique
- Can be shared manually
To join using an invite code:
- Click the + Create or Join button in the navigation bar.
- Select the join option.
- Enter the invite code.
- Confirm.
If the code is valid, you will join the Private group.
3. Add Members (Direct Addition)
Section titled “3. Add Members (Direct Addition)”Authorized members of a Private group can directly add members.
They can:
- Select from their friends
- Select from school members
When adding someone:
- If the person is already a school member, they are added directly to the Private group.
- If the person is not yet a school member, they are automatically added to the school first, then added to the Private group.
This ensures group membership always exists within school membership.
Important Rules
Section titled “Important Rules”- Private group membership is controlled.
- Only authorized roles can generate invite links or codes.
- Only authorized roles can add members.
- Public groups do not require joining.
- Private groups do not display a Join button.
What Happens After Joining
Section titled “What Happens After Joining”Once you join a Private group:
- The group appears in your sidebar.
- You can view and participate in conversations.
- You receive notifications (depending on settings).
If you lose access, the group disappears from your view.
Role-Based Restrictions
Section titled “Role-Based Restrictions”Your ability to:
- Generate invite links
- Generate invite codes
- Add members
- Remove members
Depends on your assigned role in the school.

Common Questions

Public groups include all members automatically.
Private groups require invitation or role-based access.
Why can’t I see a Private group?
Section titled “Why can’t I see a Private group?”- You are not a member.
- Your role does not grant access.
- You have not been invited.
Can I leave a Private group?
Section titled “Can I leave a Private group?”Yes.
- Open the group.
- Access group settings.
- Select Leave Group (if allowed).
Public groups cannot be left individually.
