File Upload Failed

If a file fails to upload in a conversation, the issue is usually related to file size, file type, network stability, or conversation permissions.

Follow the steps below to identify and resolve the issue.

Uploads may fail if the file is too large.

Possible causes include:

  • The file exceeds the allowed upload limit
  • The upload was interrupted by a network issue

Try the following:

  • Compress the file
  • Split the file into smaller parts
  • Upload a smaller version of the file

If unsure, try uploading a small test file.

Step 2: Confirm the File Type Is Supported

Section titled “Step 2: Confirm the File Type Is Supported”

Some file types may be restricted for security reasons.

Examples may include:

  • Executable files (.exe)
  • System files
  • Potentially unsafe file types
  • Restricted file extensions

If the file type is blocked:

  • Convert it to a supported format
  • Compress it into a ZIP file (if allowed)
  • Use an approved file-sharing method

File uploads require a stable internet connection.

Try:

  • Refreshing the page
  • Reconnecting to Wi-Fi
  • Switching to a different network
  • Waiting a few seconds and trying again

Large files are more sensitive to network interruptions.

You may not be able to upload files if:

  • The conversation is locked
  • File sharing is restricted in that group
  • Only administrators can post attachments
  • Your role limits file uploads

If unsure, contact the group administrator.

Uploads may fail if the school or system has reached storage limits.

Possible situations include:

  • The school storage quota is full
  • Upload limits are temporarily reached
  • The system is limiting uploads

If multiple users experience the same issue, contact an administrator.

Some browser extensions may interfere with uploads.

Examples include:

  • Ad blockers
  • Privacy protection tools
  • Script blockers

Try:

  • Disabling extensions temporarily
  • Opening the page in a private/incognito window
  • Switching to a different browser

Step 7: Check Security or Antivirus Software

Section titled “Step 7: Check Security or Antivirus Software”

Some security or antivirus software may block:

  • File transfers
  • Media uploads
  • Script execution required for uploading

Check your security software settings or temporarily disable blocking features if safe to do so.

Possible causes include:

  • Network interruption
  • File size too large
  • Browser timeout

Try refreshing the page and uploading again.

This means the system does not allow that file type.

Convert the file to a supported format before uploading.

This usually indicates:

  • File size limits
  • Unstable internet connection

Try uploading a smaller file.

Possible causes include:

  • Role restrictions
  • Browser problems
  • Local network issues

Contact your administrator if:

  • File uploads are restricted by school policy
  • Storage limits appear to be reached
  • Only certain roles are allowed to upload files

Administrators manage group settings and permissions.

Contact support if:

  • File uploads consistently fail across conversations
  • Multiple users report the same issue
  • The upload feature appears broken
  • You receive repeated system errors
