School Groups
The Groups tab displays all groups within a school.
Groups are structured spaces where members:
- Communicate
- Share content
- Collaborate
- Organize discussions
Your access to groups depends on:
- Group type (Public or Private)
- Your role
- School configuration
Group Types
Section titled “Group Types”Hischool supports two types of groups:
1. Public Groups
Section titled “1. Public Groups”A Public Group is visible to all members of the school.
Key characteristics:
- All school members can see the group.
- There is no Join button.
- All members are default members of the group.
- Clicking the group opens its content immediately.
- Suitable for announcements, general discussions, and school-wide communication.
Public groups are ideal for:
- School-wide updates
- Public discussions
- Shared resources
- Important announcements
Every member of the school automatically has access.
2. Private Groups
Section titled “2. Private Groups”A Private Group is restricted and not visible to all school members.
Visibility and access are limited to:
- The group creator
- Members explicitly added to the group
- School members with specific roles that grant access
Private groups are suitable for:
- Restricted projects
- Closed teams
- Internal discussions
- Confidential collaboration
If you are not a member and do not have the required role, the group will not appear in your list.
Groups Overview
Section titled “Groups Overview”Inside the Groups tab, you may see:
- A search box
- Category filters (if enabled)
- Group cards or list view
Groups may be displayed in:
- Grid (card) layout
- List layout (if supported)
Public and Private groups are displayed based on your access rights.
Searching for Groups
Section titled “Searching for Groups”Use the search box to:
- Find a group by name
- Search by keywords in descriptions
- Quickly navigate large schools
Search results update dynamically.
If a group does not appear:
- It may be Private.
- You may not be a member.
- Your role may not allow visibility.
- A category filter may be active.
Categories (If Enabled)
Section titled “Categories (If Enabled)”Schools may organize groups into categories.
Categories:
- Appear as tabs or collapsible sections
- Help structure large schools
- Filter visible groups
Selecting a category updates the group list.
If no categories are configured, all visible groups appear in a single list.
Access Rules Summary
Section titled “Access Rules Summary”| Group Type | Visible to All | Join Required | Default Membership |

Public groups require no joining action.
Private groups require explicit access.
Role-Based Restrictions
Section titled “Role-Based Restrictions”Your ability to:
- Create a group
- Edit group details
- Add members to private groups
- Remove members
- Delete a group
Depends on your assigned role in the school.

Large School Behavior
Section titled “Large School Behavior”In schools with many groups:
- Categories help reduce clutter.
- Search is recommended.
- Groups may load progressively.
Navigation performance may vary depending on device and network conditions.
Common Questions
Section titled “Common Questions”Why Can’t I See a Group?
Section titled “Why Can’t I See a Group?”Possible reasons:
- It is a Private group.
- You are not a member.
- Your role does not grant access.
- A category filter is active.
Why Don’t I See a Join Button?
Section titled “Why Don’t I See a Join Button?”Public groups do not have a Join button.
All school members are automatically members of Public groups.
Why Can’t I Create a Group?
Section titled “Why Can’t I Create a Group?”Group creation may be restricted to:
- Owners
- Administrators
- Specific roles
