Close a Direct Message

You can close a Direct Message (DM) conversation if you no longer want to keep it active.

Closing a DM means ending the current chat session between two users.

This action:

  • Closes the conversation
  • Removes it from your active message view
  • Does not block the other user

Closing a conversation is used to organize your messaging experience.

A Direct Message (DM) is a private conversation between two users.

The Close Conversation action is available only in Direct Messages.

This action does not apply to:

  • Group Messages
  • School Groups
  • Public Groups
  • Private Groups

To close a DM:

  1. Open the direct message conversation.
  2. Open the conversation options menu.
  3. Select Close Conversation.
  4. Confirm the action.

After confirming, the conversation will be closed.

After closing the conversation:

  • The current chat session between the two users is closed.
  • The conversation is removed from your active message view.
  • The other user is not blocked.

Closing a DM simply ends the conversation session.

Even after closing a conversation, you can still message the user again.

To start a new conversation:

  • Open the user’s profile, or
  • Start a new message from the Messages section.

If you send a new message, a new DM conversation will be created.

See:
Start a New Conversation

Closing a conversation is not the same as blocking a user.

Close Conversation

  • Ends the current chat session
  • Does not block the user
  • Allows starting a new conversation later

Block User

  • Prevents sending messages
  • Stops interaction between users

See:
Block or Unblock a User

  • Direct Messages do not support deleting a conversation.
  • The only available action is Close Conversation.
  • Closing a conversation does not remove the other user from your network.
  • You can start a new conversation anytime.
