Leave a School

If you no longer wish to participate in a school, you can leave it.

Leaving a school removes your access to:

Groups
Conversations
Member lists
School content

This action affects only the selected school and does not impact your global Hischool account.

How to Leave a School

To leave a school:

Open the school.
Open the sidebar context menu.
Select Leave School.
Confirm your decision.

After confirmation:

You are immediately removed from the school.
The school disappears from your Home page.
Your school-specific identity is deleted.

What Happens After Leaving

When you leave a school:

You immediately lose access to all groups and conversations inside that school.
You will no longer appear in the Members list.
You will stop receiving notifications from that school.
Your role and permissions within that school are revoked.

Your global account, profile, and other schools remain unaffected.

What Happens to Your Messages

Depending on school configuration:

Your past messages may remain visible to other members.
Your display name at the time of posting may remain attached to messages.
You will no longer have access to the school’s message history.

Message retention is controlled by school-level settings.

Owner Restrictions

If you are the Owner of a school:

You cannot leave the school.
You must first transfer ownership to another member.

Only one owner can exist at a time.

Administrator Considerations

If you are an Administrator:

Leaving removes your administrative privileges immediately.
You will no longer manage members, roles, or settings.

Transfer responsibilities before leaving if necessary.

Rejoining a School

If you leave a school and later want to return:

Rejoining depends on the school’s visibility and access settings.

You may need:

To join again through Discover (if the school is discoverable), or
A valid invite link, or
A valid invite code

Rejoining is treated as a new membership.

Previous roles, permissions, and identity settings are not automatically restored.

When You Cannot Leave

You may not see the Leave School option if:

You are the current owner.
The school is managed under organizational restrictions.
Your role has system-level limitations.

If unsure, contact a school administrator.

Before Leaving: Things to Consider

Before leaving, you may want to:

Save important files or links.
Inform relevant members.
Transfer responsibilities (if applicable).
Complete pending tasks.

Leaving is immediate and cannot be undone without rejoining.
