Mention Users
Mentions allow you to reference specific users inside a conversation.
When you mention someone:
- Their name is highlighted in the message
- It clarifies who the message is directed to
- It helps draw attention in active conversations
Mentions are commonly used in group conversations and school groups.
How Mentions Work
Section titled “How Mentions Work”To mention a user:
- Type @ in the message input field.
- A list of available users will appear.
- Select the user from the suggestion list.
- Complete your message and send it.
The selected user’s name will appear highlighted in the message.
Where Mentions Are Available
Section titled “Where Mentions Are Available”Mentions are available depending on the conversation type.
Group Messages
Section titled “Group Messages”In Group Messages, you can mention:
- Only members who are part of that group conversation.
Users who are not participants in the group cannot be mentioned.
School Groups
Section titled “School Groups”Inside school groups, you can mention:
- Only members of that school.
If a user is not a member of the school, they will not appear in the mention list.
Where Mentions Are Not Available
Section titled “Where Mentions Are Not Available”Mentions are not supported in the following places:
Direct Messages (DM)
Section titled “Direct Messages (DM)”Direct Messages involve only two users.
Because both participants are already part of the conversation, mentioning is unnecessary and not supported.
Saved Notes
Section titled “Saved Notes”Saved Notes is a private space for sending messages to yourself.
Since no other users are involved, mentions are not available.
Mention Suggestions
Section titled “Mention Suggestions”When you type @:
- A list of available users will appear automatically.
- The list includes only users who can be mentioned in that context.
- You can begin typing a name to filter the suggestions.
Selecting a user inserts the mention directly into the message.
Best Practices
Section titled “Best Practices”- Mention users when their attention is required.
- Avoid excessive mentions in active conversations.
- Mention only relevant participants.
- Keep messages clear and focused.
Common Issues
Section titled “Common Issues”I cannot mention someone
Section titled “I cannot mention someone”Possible reasons:
- The user is not part of the conversation.
- The user is not a member of the school.
- Mentions are not supported in that context.
The user does not appear in the list
Section titled “The user does not appear in the list”- The user may not be eligible to be mentioned.
- Check that the user belongs to the conversation or school.
The mention list is empty
Section titled “The mention list is empty”Make sure you typed @ in the message input field and that other users are available in that conversation.
