School Groups
The Groups tab displays all groups within a school.
Groups are collaboration spaces where members:
- Communicate
- Share content
- Collaborate
- Organize discussions
Your access to groups depends on group type, school configuration, and your assigned role.
Group Types
Section titled “Group Types”In Hischool, groups are divided into two main types:
1. Public Groups
Section titled “1. Public Groups”A Public Group is accessible to all members of the school by default.
Characteristics:
- Visible to all school members
- All school members are automatically considered members of the group
- No “Join” action is required
- Clicking the group immediately opens its content
- Suitable for announcements and school-wide communication
Public groups are recommended for:
- School-wide updates
- General discussions
- Public information sharing
- Open collaboration across the entire school
All school members have access automatically.
2. Private Groups
Section titled “2. Private Groups”A Private Group is restricted and not visible to all school members.
Characteristics:
- Visible only to:
- The group creator
- Members explicitly added to the group
- School members whose role grants access
- Not visible to regular members without permission
- Designed for closed or limited activities
Private groups are recommended for:
- Internal team discussions
- Staff-only communication
- Role-based coordination
- Confidential projects
If you cannot see a private group, you likely do not have permission to access it.
Groups Overview
Section titled “Groups Overview”Inside the Groups tab, you may see:
- A search box
- Category filters (if enabled)
- Group cards or list view
Groups may be displayed in:
- Grid (card) layout
- List layout (if supported)
Public groups are accessible immediately.
Private groups appear only if you have permission.
Searching for Groups
Section titled “Searching for Groups”Use the search box to:
- Find a group by name
- Search by keywords in descriptions
- Quickly navigate large schools
Search results update dynamically.
If a group does not appear:
- It may be private.
- It may be restricted to specific roles.
- It may belong to a filtered category.
- You may not have permission to view it.
Categories (If Enabled)
Section titled “Categories (If Enabled)”Schools may organize groups into categories.
Categories:
- Appear as tabs or collapsible sections
- Help structure large schools
- Filter visible groups
Selecting a category updates the group list.
If no categories are configured, all visible groups appear in a single list.
Accessing a Group
Section titled “Accessing a Group”Public Groups
Section titled “Public Groups”To access a public group:
- Click the group.
- The group content opens immediately.
All school members automatically have access and participation rights (subject to role permissions).
Private Groups
Section titled “Private Groups”Private groups cannot be accessed unless:
- You are added as a member, or
- Your role grants automatic access.
Private groups require explicit permission.
Role-Based Restrictions
Section titled “Role-Based Restrictions”Your ability to:
- Create a group
- Edit group details
- Add members (for private groups)
- Remove members
- Delete a group
Depends on your assigned school role.

Large School Behavior
Section titled “Large School Behavior”In schools with many groups:
- Categories help reduce clutter
- Search is recommended
- Groups may load progressively
Navigation performance may vary depending on device and network conditions.
Leaving a Group
Section titled “Leaving a Group”Public Groups
Section titled “Public Groups”Public groups cannot be “left” individually,
because all school members are automatically included.
Private Groups
Section titled “Private Groups”If you no longer want to participate:
- Open the group.
- Access group settings (if available).
- Select Leave Group (if permitted).
After leaving:
- The group disappears from your view.
- You lose access to its content.
Rejoining requires permission.
Common Questions
Section titled “Common Questions”Why Can’t I See a Specific Group?
Section titled “Why Can’t I See a Specific Group?”Possible reasons:
- The group is private.
- You are not added to the group.
- Your role does not grant access.
- A category filter is applied.
Why Can’t I Create a Group?
Section titled “Why Can’t I Create a Group?”Group creation may be restricted to:
- Owners
- Administrators
- Specific roles
Why Is a Group Missing from the Sidebar?
Section titled “Why Is a Group Missing from the Sidebar?”Public groups are always visible.
If a group is missing:
- It may be private.
- You may not have permission.
- Your role may restrict access.
